3-week holiday seems too short. Been so busy since the first day. When I finally have time to chill today and upload pictures, realise that it is already time to pack for my Italy trip. Think further again, 2 days after i come back, first day of new semester starts…urghhhhhh….Apart from that, been shopping alot recently in preparation for the trip…Many friends have already started working, while I had just registered myself with an agent this morning…arghhhhh…
Anyway, participated in the Glasgow International Student Welcome Programme (GISWP) in the past few days. It was a joint effort by all universities and colleges in Glasgow to welcome international students. Mainly organised by Strathclyde, helped by volunteers from different universities in Glasgow. Volunteers were supposed to greet them, register them at airport, tell them about Glasgow city, and send them to their accomodation.
I stumbled upon this programme on the internet. Thought to publicise it in blog & facebook only to find out later that Jim Wilson has already forwarded a mail asking for volunteers. Some friends thought it was a paid work. Nope. It was purely voluntary. Tiring because have to stand / walk 7 hours to guide new students from the luggage area to our desk, after which we would chat with the students while waiting for the bus to fetch them. But FUN!!! because i could make new friends and it was interesting to see and talk to people from all over the world!!! I’ve met people from all continents in that few days, people from US, Canada, France, Czech, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia!! and guess what, i also met friends from IMU coming to study medicine in University of Glasgow. Haha…
Made my first Scottish friends here in GISWP. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. Thanks to Ruth and Peter, my co-ordinators and fellow friends from all universities in Glasgow, Hannah, Ana, Sarah, Alice, Kay, Niddhin, Paul, Andy and Maureen. Doubt u guys will read this but you guys really made my experience worth it. Last but not least, of course, thank you Million for the 2-day company
If I have the energy, will go and help out some more after the trip. Highly recommend all juniors to join it next year!
