No More MV on Youtube…

11 03 2009

Well…as you guys might have noticed…

Those from within the UK can no longer access music videos on youtube…ALL of them…Starting from 6pm yesterday (9 March), all professional MVs are being removed from British viewership…by phases..

Why?

All these while, Youtube is not allowed to broadcast vides online for free…the company pays for royalties…
In UK, they pay to a company called Performing Rights Society (PRS), which collect the money on behalf of record companies…Recently PRS came out with new agreement (which I assume is asking for more money), which Youtube could not agree on…Google, which bought over Youtube thinks that it is now too expensive to maintain those videos online…

News describe this as a row between PRS and Youtube…which is still unsolved…and currently a lose-lose situation for everyone….

Read the news HERE and HERE.

A good news for us who are doing assignments?
Bad news for juniors who will be coming over soon? =P

Probably everyone will be flocking MySpace for music videos after this…LOL

Beware of Identity Theft on Facebook

8 03 2009

Many of us have got a facebook account and signed up for many applications…

Yet, are they really safe?

By setting up a simple third-party application and allowing users to add, BBC successfully retrieved user’s details without their consent. This showed that Facebook is not doing enough to protect the user’s identity.
Worse still, you dont need to add any applications to be a victim, you just need to be a friend to someone who does.
& if you do read those terms & conditions, you are already warned about the risk when you sign up for facebook and add applications.
Watch the report HERE.

There is also a recent case of identity theft.

The lesson…dont leave too much personal details / add too many applications on facebook :)

The Obama Day…

21 01 2009

20th January 2009…the day of inauguration of the 44th US President…

An inauguration speech that probably drew the loudest cheer in the history…but what matters from today onwards…is whether he can deliver what he promised his fellow Americans…

Watch this video to know how much it means to Americans…especially on issues like healthcare…US health care works based on healthcare insurance…& u know…insurance companies are profit-driven…It is common in US to find drugs few times more expensive than sold in other countries…which makes even basic healthcare inaccessible…no insurance = everything is expensive…click here BBC Panorama: What Now, Mr President?

Am glad that does not happen to Malaysia…Not that Malaysia doesnt have healthcare problems but it doesnt seem as big as that in US now…that even middle class are deprived of healthcare…

Cant imagine how big a problematic country Obama is inheriting from his predecessor…& how heavy is his responsibilities…Best wishes for his first term as President of USA

Try this…see if you could pass 11-plus

28 12 2008

11-Plus is probably equivalent to UPSR in Malaysia…an exam that all primary school students must take…and one which decides which type of secondary education they will undergo in the coming year. Those who pass will enter grammar school…those who fail enter a secondary modern school or technical school…It is interesting to note that there is grammar school is already abolished in Scotland and Wales, which has developed their own education system.

Click for more on Grammar School and 11-Plus Exam.

Anyway, found a set of sample 11-Plus exam questions which I think is worth a try. Hehe…Click HERE, 10 minutes for 15 questions. Have fun & do share how many marks u scored! I got 1 wrong :)

Avoid Irish Pork

8 12 2008

This is for friends who take pork products from Ireland.

UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) has urged UK citizens to avoid all pork products from Irish Republic and Northern Ireland…These porks were found to contain as high as 200 times the safety limit of dioxins in a recent test. However, FSA says any risk on human is low. LIDL and Tesco are among the supermarkets that have removed the products from shelves and are offering customers refunds.

Obama Won!!

5 11 2008

Woke up and turned on my computer immediately to check the US election results.

“Obama wins historic US election” at BBC front page…

*relief* although he has been leading just before i went to sleep last night…he was just 60+ electoral votes short to get the majority & become the president…

Then i listened to his victory speech.

A very heart-warming and inspiring speech…many Americans in this video were caught in tears…
Full video on his speech watch here in BBC.

Obama won 349 votes while McCain won 162 votes…

And I salute McCain for being really sporting to deliver such a concession speech after the results were released. He pledged his support for Obama and urged his supporters to also support Obama as the president and worked together as a nation.

Full video on his speech watch here.

& this caught my attention…Kenyan government is soo proud of Obama’s Kenyan root…Obama’s dad is a Kenyan…that they declared Thursday a national public holiday to celebrate Obama’s victory into the White House…here.

Analysis on the election results:

watch here for “The Victory Moment”

watch here for “Who Voted for Obama”

watch here for analysis for “Why Obama wins”

watch here for “Why McCain Lost”

watch here for Bush’s congratulatory speech to Obama

Remember the online world election of US president I wrote the last time? The result is out too…almost the whole world voted for Obama…check here.

Congratulations to Obama and McCain for their own campaigns…

& Welcome to the new page of US History..or perhaps the world’s history…Hopefully Obama will live up his promise to Americans and bring changes to the US..and the world…
