No More MV on Youtube…

11 03 2009

Well…as you guys might have noticed…

Those from within the UK can no longer access music videos on youtube…ALL of them…Starting from 6pm yesterday (9 March), all professional MVs are being removed from British viewership…by phases..

Why?

All these while, Youtube is not allowed to broadcast vides online for free…the company pays for royalties…
In UK, they pay to a company called Performing Rights Society (PRS), which collect the money on behalf of record companies…Recently PRS came out with new agreement (which I assume is asking for more money), which Youtube could not agree on…Google, which bought over Youtube thinks that it is now too expensive to maintain those videos online…

News describe this as a row between PRS and Youtube…which is still unsolved…and currently a lose-lose situation for everyone….

Read the news HERE and HERE.

A good news for us who are doing assignments?
Bad news for juniors who will be coming over soon? =P

Probably everyone will be flocking MySpace for music videos after this…LOL

Try this…see if you could pass 11-plus

28 12 2008

11-Plus is probably equivalent to UPSR in Malaysia…an exam that all primary school students must take…and one which decides which type of secondary education they will undergo in the coming year. Those who pass will enter grammar school…those who fail enter a secondary modern school or technical school…It is interesting to note that there is grammar school is already abolished in Scotland and Wales, which has developed their own education system.

Anyway, found a set of sample 11-Plus exam questions which I think is worth a try. Hehe…Click HERE, 10 minutes for 15 questions. Have fun & do share how many marks u scored! I got 1 wrong :)

Avoid Irish Pork

8 12 2008

This is for friends who take pork products from Ireland.

UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) has urged UK citizens to avoid all pork products from Irish Republic and Northern Ireland…These porks were found to contain as high as 200 times the safety limit of dioxins in a recent test. However, FSA says any risk on human is low. LIDL and Tesco are among the supermarkets that have removed the products from shelves and are offering customers refunds.

£92 million jackpot – missed!

Fingers crossed - suit people who buy lottery. LOL. The UK National Lottery Symbol

Fingers crossed - suit people who buy lottery. LOL. The UK National Lottery Symbol

Hmm…regretted I didnt try it out…last Friday’s UK Euromillion lottery jackpot was a whopping £92 million!!

Found out about this when i was at the Glasgow International Airport volunteering for the GISWP. Everytime I passed by WHSmith to the luggage area (I do that more than 20 times in a shift), the bright notice would catch my attention. & EVERYTIME I would slow down my steps there and started to think if i should buy…but yeah…as you can see..i didnt…my sanity overcame the impulse to buy…But now thinking back…i should have called my housemates and asked them to share…aarghhhhh…

Try google “£92 million jackpot” and you can see many people discussed this on the internet, for example, in here. What would you do if you win £92 million??

I wonder who won the jackpot last Friday. It wasnt publicised on any media obviously, to protect the safety of the winner.

Smoke Free Law in UK

27 08 2008

Wonder if you realize you don’t smell any cigarette smoke inside any of the building in Glasgow. Sometimes you can even see workers gathering outside building to smoke…

That is because of the smoke-free law enforced not only in Scotland (26 March 2006), but also in England (1 July 2007).

What does the smoke-free law say? Under the legislation, all enclosed / substantially enclosed buildings, even vehicles (including public transport) have to be smoke-free. So, you are legally protected from the harm of secondhand smoke in any of the enclosed buildings, be it restaurants, bars, public transports, cars or lorries. Indoor smoking is no longer allowed!

Definition of enclosed: if they have a ceiling or roof, except doors, windows and passageways, are wholly enclosed, whether on a permanent or temporary basis.

The aim of the law was obvious, ie to protect the public from the harm of secondhand smoke.

Penalties for going against the law: £50 fine, refusal to pay will result in prosecution and fine up to £1000. Person in charge of the no-smoking building also will be fined £200 for allowing people to smoke or for not able to display no-smoking sign, refusal to pay leads to prosecution and fine up to £2500.

So next time be aware when you see this sign in the building..

No annoying cigarette smoke in the coming 1 year…wheeeeeeee……

Can You Be A British?

26 08 2008

To be a British or a permanent resident, you need to sit through a 45-minute computer-based test.

All that you need to do, is to buy & read a 150-page book titled “Life in the UK – the Journey to the Citizenship” handbook. It is designed to test the would-be citizens on history, law, social & manners in the UK and hopefully make them settling down easier.

Found a set of questions here. Test yourself! ahaha..i got 50% only…LOL…

The test was implemented on 1 November 2005. They even offer you classes! More info about the citizenship test here.

UK Recession

16 08 2008

If you notice, UK is having recession now. Inflation rises, growth slows, unemployment rates shoot up…& you might have noticed certain items have gone up in price…

Pounds has dropped to its weakest point since 2006…Now it is RM6.24 for 1pound…Euro 1.27 for 1 pound

Start saving money…or should i say, start getting more of your ringgit exchanged to pounds? LOL
