The Obama Day…

21 01 2009

20th January 2009…the day of inauguration of the 44th US President…

An inauguration speech that probably drew the loudest cheer in the history…but what matters from today onwards…is whether he can deliver what he promised his fellow Americans…

Watch this video to know how much it means to Americans…especially on issues like healthcare…US health care works based on healthcare insurance…& u know…insurance companies are profit-driven…It is common in US to find drugs few times more expensive than sold in other countries…which makes even basic healthcare inaccessible…no insurance = everything is expensive…click here BBC Panorama: What Now, Mr President?

Am glad that does not happen to Malaysia…Not that Malaysia doesnt have healthcare problems but it doesnt seem as big as that in US now…that even middle class are deprived of healthcare…

Cant imagine how big a problematic country Obama is inheriting from his predecessor…& how heavy is his responsibilities…Best wishes for his first term as President of USA

Obama Won!!

5 11 2008

Woke up and turned on my computer immediately to check the US election results.

“Obama wins historic US election” at BBC front page…

*relief* although he has been leading just before i went to sleep last night…he was just 60+ electoral votes short to get the majority & become the president…

Then i listened to his victory speech.

A very heart-warming and inspiring speech…many Americans in this video were caught in tears…
Full video on his speech watch here in BBC.

Obama won 349 votes while McCain won 162 votes…

And I salute McCain for being really sporting to deliver such a concession speech after the results were released. He pledged his support for Obama and urged his supporters to also support Obama as the president and worked together as a nation.

Full video on his speech watch here.

& this caught my attention…Kenyan government is soo proud of Obama’s Kenyan root…Obama’s dad is a Kenyan…that they declared Thursday a national public holiday to celebrate Obama’s victory into the White House…here.

Analysis on the election results:

watch here for Bush’s congratulatory speech to Obama

Remember the online world election of US president I wrote the last time? The result is out too…almost the whole world voted for Obama…check here.

Congratulations to Obama and McCain for their own campaigns…

& Welcome to the new page of US History..or perhaps the world’s history…Hopefully Obama will live up his promise to Americans and bring changes to the US..and the world…

Today…is the US Voting Day

4 11 2008

Finally…November the 4th…the big day for all US citizens…

21 months of campaigning & debating over whose policies are the best…it is up to the layman to judge and choose whose policies suits them best…that’s the ‘beauty’ of democracy…

About a decade ago, US enjoys both peace and prosperity. Half a decade later, the peace was gone after 911. Still there was prosperity. But this was harmed again by the economy downturn recently. Perhaps, that is why many Americans feel the urge to give their say now. The first town to have cast their votes…Dixville Notch…have chosen Obama as their next president…with a turnout rate of 100%…Hmm…
American ARE feeling the push to vote this time…or perhaps the celebrities’ viral videos have worked?

May the best man wins..good luck to both Obama & McCain
Looking forward the results later tonight..

On a separate note, there will be a big screen at Debates Chamber, Student Union Building later at 8pm to watch the US election results…be there if you want to follow up!!

Top Videos in US Election 2008

2 11 2008

Seems like internet has now become the main media in many elections across the world. It had a great effect on our last Malaysian election. Now it is playing its role in conveying the message from general public…

Here are some top video hits on Youtube in the latest US election

1. Dear Mr Obama - a US army veteran gives out a strong personal message why he would vote for McCain…with more than 12million hits…

2. Yes We Can - a black-&-white music video led by Will.i.am from Black Eye Peas..singing lines of Obama’s speeches. More than 11million hits..

3. I got a Crush on Obama – a R&B song written by student Leah Kaufman and two friends, lip-synched by model Amber Lee Ettinger, who later made name as the Obama Girl. More than 10 million hits…This is just one of 30 over videos starring Obama Girl on Youtube…
This was released on 2007, after which Obama campaign straight away released a official statement denying any relationship with Amber Lee…

Who is Barack Obama?

20 10 2008

This is seriously funny & cool!!

In a white-tie charity dinner in New York (Alfred E Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner) recently, Obama joked about his identity. He is just soo good at poking fun at himself!! Watch HERE.

Few facts that might help you appreciate the video better:

1. Obama’s Full Name: Barack Hussein Obama (YES! Hussein! That’s a reason why he was accused of being a Muslim instead of a Christian.)

2. Obama’s was Born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1961.

3. Swahili is an African language – Obama’s father is a Kenyan.

4. The name “Barack” means “blessed”.

5. Clark Kent (from Superman and Smallville) is born in planet Krypton, sent by his father (Jor-El) to save planet Earth.

6. McCain claims his policies are different from that of George Bush. About a month ago, Obama ridiculed McCain’s policies in a campaign rally in Virginia by saying “When you put lipsticks on a pig, it’s still pig”. McCain soon accused Obama as being sexist. LOL. Full story HERE.

7. Rudy Giuliani is New York City mayor, who cross-dressed on several public occasions. Read HERE.

Some of his cracking lines that night:

“Contrary to the rumors you have heard, I was not born in a manger. I was actually born on Krypton and sent here by my father Jorel to save the Planet Earth.

“Many of you — many of you know that I got my name, Barack, from my father. What you may not know is Barack is actually Swahili for “That One.”"

LOL…ehh…just found a longer video in youtube! Click HERE.

OOH!! & Obama’s facebook page HERE!

OMG!! I’m becoming like an Obama’s fan…ahahah…

Reverse Psychology…do not vote?

7 10 2008

Stumbled upon this new viral video on youtube which is just produced by Leonardo DiCaprio with a group of celebrities…Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Eva Langoria, Tobey Macguire and lots more, which is targetted at youngsters to get them to vote…how? by telling them not to vote…(Gee…seems like ignorance is part of being a youngster…LOL)

Watch this:

It’s good to see that when a country has problems…people come together with ideas and actions to try to overcome the problems together…

Voting age in the US is currently 18…although there have been debates and discussions to lower it to 16…(yeah…compared it with 21 in Malaysia :-P )

I dont have any friends in the US…but if you do have…why dont spread the video to them? Vote is the right thing to do…if you want to have a say…because after Nov the 4th…pooff…you have no choice at all..

Hmm..wonder if this reverse psychology would work…

Paris Hilton & US Presidential Election

7 10 2008

Yeah..so what does Paris Hilton has to do with the current US Presidential Election?

Here is the relation between two of them…McCain first dismisses Barack Obama as a Paris Hilton-style celebrity when Obama’s appearance in Germany was greeted by a 200 thousand strong crowd…

Immediately, Paris Hilton responded with another video “campaigning” for herself as new US President…watch till the last second for Obama’s own response… i personally like his last sentence…haha :)

The above videos have really inspired quite a number of people. Here is an example of ‘creative’ people who responded less than a week later :

It is really fun or rather amusing to see such presidential election…Haha…

US now is having a collapsing financial sector…which threatens to pull the US deep down and many countries in the world into recession…& the US House of Representatives has just recently approved a bail out plan of USD700 billion to rescue the US financial system. USD 700 billion…a value enough to create the world’s 17th largest economy (similar to that of Netherlands), is only enough to pay off just 7% of the USD9.8 trillion national debt…

Who can lead US out of this mess created by Bush?

Do we have such people in Malaysia??

Let the time shows us…

You Can Now Vote for the New US President!

1 10 2008

US Presidential Election is scheduled on November 4 2008. McCain or Obama??

Do you want to have a say on who should take over the White House? If yes, now you could.

The Economist is carrying out a global mock election to allow everyone in the world to choose your next US President. Yes, everyone in the world, including you.

Votes are cast on a country wide level. Each country is assigned a number of votes according to its size of population. Then all the countries’ votes are tallied, to determine each candidate’s worldwide total.  This mimics the US election system called electoral-college system.

Say your choice by registering and voting HERE.

In the same page, you can see at a glance which countries are pro-Obama or pro-McCain, along with their respective vote percentages. The candidate with the most number of electoral-college votes will win the worldwide election. Closing Date is 1st November 2008, midnight London time.

Of course, the winner in this mock election may not be the actual winner in the real election though it will be interesting to see who everyone else in the world choose.
