More about Glasgow Silent Rave

5 03 2009

Hmm…read a news today…saying that Glasgow police is banning the Glasgow Central station silent rave due to safety reason…read HERE…didnt know it was organised without a permit…hmm…

& so i saw from facebook it’s moved from Central station to George Square…read HERE.

& Apparently…..it’s inspired by the “T-mobile dance” in London Liverpool Station…it was held earlier this year as part of T-mobile’s promotional gimmick…T-mobile spent 8 months to train 400 dancers for this…as a surprise for public communters that day…& as you can see…public enjoyed the surprise…LOL…wonder if this could happen in Malaysia…haha…will Maxis or Digi or Celcom do this?

Watch this…hehe…i think it’s rather cool…

Where goes the chill?

14 01 2009

Weather is getting warmer back in Glasgow…It was soooo cold early last week & the weeks before…to be frank…kinda disappointed…thought could experience some extreme kind of coldness recently…chill chill please come back!!!

Anyway…most of the colder temperatures in previous weeks were recorded in Northern Scotland, England and Wales…where the mercury hits as low as -8 C to – 10C in many places…Read full news HERE.

Interestingly, for the first time in my life, I heard about these:
1. Water supplies were disrupted not because of burst pipes nor scheduled repair work…but due to water frozen inside the pipes…That happened in south Wales a week ago…6000 homes and businesses were affected..read HERE.

2. There is such thing called “Cold Weather Payment” where pensioners and vulnerable people (severely disabled adults or families with young and severely disable child) are paid £25/week as assistance to their heating bill, to avoid unwanted health problems due to cold weather. Paid automatically to eligible person when an area’s average temperature falls below 0 C for seven consecutive days, UK government has spent £100m this winter…Apparently it was just recently raised from last year’s £8.50/week…read HERE.

3. There is also such a term “ice casualties” which mainly refers to fractures…read HERE.

Besides that, many schools were closed and even a football match was postponed due to the extreme coldness…read HERE.

Having said that, winter sceneries are always nice with snow…LOOK!!

Stay warm people! & enjoy the second week of research project! :)

Heavy Snow with Bad Weather Tonight…

4 12 2008

Snow…good or bad thing? Good if moderate snow with stable weather when people can play snow ball fight and build snowman…bad when it comes with blizzard and inconvenience…

Tonight at 1am…Glasgow is predicted to snow again…Look here. But this time the forecast comes with serious warnings, with “persistent heavy snow…Potential for 10 to 20cm of snow above 150m and 2-5cm for lower grounds is likely”. The warning was issued because of “moderate risk of a severe event”. “Blizzard is expected across Scotland, northern England and northern Midlands on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning”. It is also predicted that there would be “significant accumulations of snow on higher ground” with “snow continuing during the Thursday morning rush hour”, which “could cause dangers in traffic”. Power companies “have already got their engineers on stand-by in case of cable problems”. For full news report, read here and here. Most parts of Scotland have been quite icy lately. For nice pictures see here.

So…can I expect to wake up tomorrow morning to see the whole grass slope in front of JBC ALL white? Anyway, get ur winter boots ready for tomorrow people! & keep urself warm tonight in your flat! :)
or u can stay up to watch the blizzard from ur window if you want :P

The odds for Glasgow having a White Christmas has gone down to 2/1…50% chance?? lucky year for us? You bet…

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee….

White Christmas, anyone?

30 11 2008

Exactly one week ago, it snowed in Glasgow…well, not just Glasgow but the whole UK!

It was a heavy one…everyone (as in my batchmates) were all super delighted…first time snow in our lives…& some people made so much noise that residences in other blocks started throwing eggs to the crowd…

That weekend snow was due to an arctic wind blowing across UK…bringing the chills along & caused the snow fall…While in Glasgow the snow melted the next morning, in several places like Aberdeen & Cambridge snow had caused road and school closure the following days. Read here.

Also because of the snow, bookmakers (betting companies) have slashed the odds of a white christmas across UK to avoid suffering from losses…which means the chances of having white christmas is even higher now!! For example, WilliamHill, the odds for White Christmas has gone down from 7/2 to 3/1!  Google “White Christmas 2008 Odds” to see yourself! (Disclaimer: I’m not encouraging betting.) Btw, i cant believe there are actually people who place bet on weather…

It’s been quite cold lately. & forecast says the weather will be around -3 to 4C for the coming week. More importantly, there will be heavy snow this coming Tuesday & Thursday!! Read here.

Anyway, it is just 25 days before Christmas…let see if we are really going to have a white christmas in Glasgow…but before that, i think it will be nice to take a look at the snow scenes in several locations in UK last week. Click here and here.

Fingers crossed everyone! :)

Snowing in Glasgow Tonight?

22 11 2008

Saw Million wrote about it…but nah..i thought it was too early…Glasgow snows in January normally…

Then this morning friends who woke up early said it was snowing lightly…

After lunch i checked the BBC weather forecast which has been pretty accurate all these while…

OMG!! It says it’s gonna snow tonight midnight!! Quote “HEAVY SNOW Sunday morning 0000 & 0300.”
Take a look at it here

Ok..i’m getting excited…ahaha…hope this news will spread around & everyone come out at midnight to play with snow!! The forecast better be accurate this time…LOL

Enjoy weekend everyone! :D
